Returning Your Cyber Monday Specials

Posted on 10. Aug, 2009 by in Cyber Monday

Finding Cyber Monday Specials are awesome when all the details work out, but sometimes it’s just not in the cards. Online shopping is all about trust. You see a picture. You read a description. In the end, you hope that the medium they describe is the same medium that you already wear, and from shopping at Wal-Mart, that is rarely the case.

Before you start you Cyber Monday Special Hunt, here are some returning tips that will help you get a full refund:

If you can, try to find the product in person. Try it on, tinker with it or do whatever you need to feel comfortable with this purchase, then go online and save some dough.

If you can’t find the product in person, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do I expect a refund for my purchase if I choose to take it back for any reason? If you’re buying a perishable product like the “Jelly of the Month Club,” you might be out of luck
  2. If the item doesn’t fit, or it’s not what you expected, will they take it back? This might be a tricky question because trying on merchandise you purchase online deals with a lot of opening vacuseal packages and tearing off tags.
  3. What if the stuff I order is broken or has missing pieces? Can I expect a replacement without extra fees?
  4. Will I have to pay a restocking fee?

With those questions in mind, figure out the return policy of the company and that particular product.

Be forewarned, sometime retailers have additional holiday return policies that supersede the normal policy. A great example is Best Buy’s 2008 no refund policy after Christmas on computers bought before December 12. This means that any product bought on Black Friday or as a Cyber Monday Special cannot be eligible for refund after December 25th, which enraged many Best Buy customers.

Remember to shop smart for your 2009 Cyber Monday Specials!
