Great Deals on Gifts for Hard-to-Buy-For People

Posted on 01. Nov, 2011 by in Cyber Monday

No one likes to give a bummer present, but darn it, some people are just hard to buy for. Actually, a lot of people are – there are those who have no interests, the ones with expensive tastes and, my favorite, the ones who buy everything for themselves.

Below are some currently-on-sale gift ideas for the folks in your life. Hopefully it’ll make a stressful task a little bit easier.

The Crazy Uncle

REI’s Switchback gloves

I actually have an uncle called “Trapper Dave,” so I’m fairly familiar with familial eccentricity. Trapper Dave does indeed “trap” things, so I figure something outdoorsy should do the trick. REI has a great line of clothing, including down jackets, raingear, hats and mittens. Currently, they have some great sales on men’s clothing, including a Lightweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T for $22.93 and REI brand Switchback gloves at $29.83 (down from $64.50).

The Critical Mother-in-Law

Bath & Body Works’ Vanilla Bean Noel Fragrance Mist

I just found out my mother-in-law unfriended me on Facebook, so I’m not sure I’m even getting her a present… but assuming we’ve patched up our issues by then, I’m thinking of scoring her some holiday cheer with the Signature Collection Vanilla Bean Noel Fragrance Mist from Bath & Body Works. Currently, they are offering an excellent before Cyber Monday deal– if you buy three Signature Collection products, you will get two free. Three for her, two for me – sounds perfect.

The Best Friend

Zestra's Female Arousal Oil

Now this one has to be top-notch. Since we’re not 5, the best friend necklace is out (well, except ironically). I like to buy her things she won’t buy for herself – awesome necklaces on sale at J. Crew, Skyy vodka (a bargain at $20.98), Zestra’s famed female arousal oil (you can actually get a Zestra free sample). I’d love to buy her better taste in men (to go along with the latter), but so far, I can’t find a Cyber Monday sale for that.

The Nephew’s Foreign Exchange Student Girlfriend

Yankee Candle's Red Apple Wreath

This chick is near-impossible to buy for – it’s practically like buying a present for a stranger. I suggest sticking to gift cards and picture frames. If you wanna get wild, you might try getting her some scented candles from Yankee Candle. Great holiday smells like Holiday Garland and Red Apple Wreath are currently on sale, buy one, get the second half-off.

The Ex-Aunt You’re Not Supposed to Talk to Anymore (see THE CRAZY UNCLE)

Anthropologie’s Jumping Koi Trinket Dish

I love my ex-aunt and I don’t care what Trapper Dave says, I’m getting her a present. She’s really classy and reads things like “Architectural Digest,” so the challenge is to get something nice that’s not going to break my piggy bank. Anthropologie offers a line of beautiful vases, a variety of awesome journals and one very cool Jumping Koi Trinket Dish, now on sale for $14.95, down from $28. They also offer free shipping if you order over $100 of product.

The Secret Santa at Work

Spencer Gift’s Zombie Girl Fleece

A Secret Santa’s challenge is to keep it cheerful, keep it cheap and reinforce a reputation of awesomeness. Some offices help out the “cheap” part, enforcing a spending limit. Fifteen bucks should do the trick, unless you REALLY like him or her, then, maybe… $16. Right now, a great choice in that price range is the “Zombie Girl Fleece,” on sale for $14.99 at Spencer’s Gifts. Nothing says awesome co-worker like Zombie gifts.

Just remember, it is the thought that counts… but some thoughts are smarter than others.
