Cyber Monday is a Coupon Snob's Salvation
Posted on 06. Aug, 2008 by shopzilla in Cyber Monday
True Confession: I’ve never returned anything in my life. I have piles of clothes, makeup and accessories I’ll never wear, but I am simply to lazy to return to the store. My whole life, I have been the anti-coupon cutter, the kind that can’t get a deal to save her life. I don’t queue up at four a.m. for the Nordstrom sale. I don’t take surveys to save 15%. I don’t buy retail on sale because I think it’s suspicious. My mother says it’s just the way God made me.
But now that Cyber Monday is coming to town, I am beginning to think I may have found my deal-getting mojo. My main reasons for never getting good deals are: a) I’m too lazy b) I abhor any kind of inconvenience or strain on my time c)I’m incredibly impatient and getting discounts often involves waiting. d) I don’t want to have to be privy to some humiliating bargain-bin environment to get a good discount.
Which of course brings us to Black Friday. For years I have been utterly mystified by my girlfriends’ invites to get up at four in the morning and say, go to Fred Myers to get amazing deals on socks. Honestly, these people are supposed to be my friends! After a busy Thanksgiving day of imbibing as much food and drink as I can cram in my 5 foot frame, I enjoy spending the next day in a woozy coma with my boyfriend, detoxing from extended family time and watching TBS movies. I know eating until you want to die and then rising at the crack of dawn for a deranged, stanger-pushing shopping spree is pretty much as American as apple pie, but when it comes to Black Friday I guess I’m more of a cobbler kind of girl.
Cyber Monday however, just might have potential to make a gulp, bargain shopper out of me. As glamorous as it sounds , a life of pure laziness, impulse spending and gluttony is not all its cracked up to be. I do wince when I think how many times I’ve paid full price only to see an item discounted 50% off a week later, or accidentally bought the same lipstick twice and never bothered to return it (true story).
I have no problem with hanging out on my laptop, having a glass of wine, and perusing cyber monday specials at my leisure while listening to Itunes. That actually sounds kind of nice!
I am going to give this whole “saving money” trend one shot this year, I think. Cyber Monday seems like a pretty foolproof excuse to see what all the fuss is about, and if it’s possible to get cyber monday specials in a serene, cushy, and cash-saving way, I guess I can stand saving a little of my career girl’s salary without too much emotional duress.
Will you be shopping cyber monday specials? If you are going to stick to Black Friday, what is wrong with you please write in and let us know why! As for me, I will be reporting back about the heady experience of getting my very first deal here, so keep checking back!
