Cyber Monday 2009 Sales To Beat Black Friday
Posted on 19. Nov, 2009 by shopzilla in Uncategorized
Low and behold, Black Friday’s lesser-known shopping partner, Cyber Monday, may in some cases be coming out on top this year. In a recent report, Yahoo announced some of 2008′s holiday shopping statistics. Guess what? The tradition of Black Friday is beginning to fade as an internet-savvy generation takes hold of the consumer market.
Last year, sales peaked on Cyber Monday and not Black Friday in the following markets:
- Books, DVDs, and video games
- Toys
- Gift cards
- Computer hardware
While these items will still be selling like hot-cakes on Black Friday, both consumers and vendors will be smart to stay on top of shopping trends. Be on the lookout for the hotter deals come Cyber Monday than anything you would find in the rush on the day after Thanksgiving.
This doesn’t mean ignore Black Friday 2009 completely. In particular, clothing and accessories continue to trump the Black Friday market – it’s hard to try on a digital image of a cashmere sweater. But this year, expect your office on Cyber Monday to be less focused on strategy meetings and more on strategy shopping. It’s predicted that this year 26% of men, 20% of women, and a huge percentage of people between the ages of 25 and 34 will do the majority of their holiday shopping online. Cyber Monday is a good place to start.
