Cyber Monday was officially coined by Shop.org and came from the e-commerce marketplace’s assessment of the 2005 online holiday shopping season. Data from online stores at the time showed sales on the Monday following Black Friday were considerably higher relative to the other days. Shop.org reported a 77% uptick for the online retail industry on this now famous day. This led to Cyber Monday’s induction into the retail marketing hall of fame and e-commerce stores everywhere have begun launching Cyber Monday specials.
